Podcasts

  • Worldbuilding for Masochists
    • Mainly focused on worldbuilding for fantasy novels, but a lot is applicable to other genres and media as well.
  • History Podcasts
    • Revolutions by Mike Duncan
      • Fairly detailed histories of revolutions throughout history. Explores the societal and structural causes as well as the ways in which individual choices shaped events.
      • Season 11 is a fictional Martian Revolution, which is an engaging narrative that draws details and patterns from the other revolutions he’s covered.
    • Tides of History and Past Lives by Patrick Wyman
      • Wide-ranging, but generally focuses on social history, and particularly later on in Tides there’s a lot of exploration of cutting edge archaeological techniques. Tides is done (but still well worth a listen), Past Lives is his new podcast.
    • Backstory
      • Hosted by historians, each episode focuses on exploring a particular topic throughout American history. The hosts can only go so in-depth in the space of a podcast episode, of course, but it’s a very good launching-off point for things you might not otherwise think about.
